How to Create a Website QR Code

A Website QR code is the simplest and most common type of QR code. When scanned, it opens a web page in the user's browser. Follow the steps below to create your first one.

Step 1: Sign In and Navigate to Your Dashboard

Log in to your QRSpike account and go to your Dashboard. If you don't have an account yet, you can sign up for free — no credit card required.

Step 2: Select "Website" as the QR Code Type

From the Dashboard, click the Create QR Code button. In the QR code type dropdown, select Website. This creates a QR code that links directly to any URL you provide.

Step 3: Enter a Name and Your Website URL

Give your QR code a descriptive name so you can identify it later on your Dashboard. Then enter the full URL of the website you want visitors to be directed to (for example, https://www.example.com).

Step 4: Customize Your QR Code

QRSpike provides several options to customize the appearance of your QR code:

Color

The Color option sets the foreground color of your QR code — the dark squares that make up the pattern. You can choose any color you like. Just make sure there is enough contrast between the color and the background so that scanners can read it reliably.

Background Color

The Background Color sets the color behind the QR code pattern. By default this is white, but you can change it to match your branding. Maintaining good contrast with the foreground color is important for scan reliability.

Select Icon

The Select Icon option lets you place a small icon in the center of your QR code. QRSpike provides a library of icons to choose from. Adding an icon gives your QR code a branded, professional look. QR codes have built-in error correction, so the icon will not prevent the code from being scanned.

Border

The Border option adds a quiet zone (blank space) around the edges of your QR code. A border helps scanners distinguish the QR code from its surroundings, especially when the code is printed on a busy background. Keeping a border enabled is recommended for best results.

Step 5: Preview Your QR Code

Before saving, click the Preview button to see what your QR code will look like with your chosen colors, icon, and border settings. The preview generates a live rendering of your QR code so you can make adjustments before committing. If something doesn't look right, simply change your settings and click Preview again.

Step 6: Save Your QR Code

Once you are happy with the preview, click Save. Your new Website QR code will appear on your Dashboard, where you can download it, edit it, or delete it at any time.
