How a FaceTime QR code works

The code encodes a FaceTime link to your phone number. On an Apple device, scanning it offers to start a FaceTime call. The person still confirms before anything connects.

How to make a FaceTime QR code

  1. Choose the country code for your number.
  2. Enter the phone number you use with FaceTime.
  3. Pick your colors — the video-camera icon in the center tells people it starts a video call.
  4. Download it and test it with an iPhone or iPad that isn't yours.

Getting it right

This is an Apple-only feature. Android phones have no FaceTime, and behavior there ranges from falling back to a normal call to doing nothing at all. If your audience is mixed, a phone code is the safer choice — or print both and label them.

Include the country code on the number.

Make sure FaceTime is turned on for that number. On the receiving iPhone, check Settings → FaceTime and confirm the number is ticked under "You can be reached by FaceTime at".

Say what it does. "Scan to FaceTime us" beside the code avoids surprising someone who expected a website.

Does a FaceTime QR code work on Android?

No — FaceTime calls can only be started from Apple devices. Android users can be invited to a FaceTime call by link, but a QR code can't start one from their phone.

Does it call automatically?

No. The iPhone asks the person to confirm before the call starts.

Can I use an email address instead of a phone number?

This generator takes a phone number. If people reach you on FaceTime by email, use a phone number that is also set up for FaceTime on your device.
