How to Create a Wi-Fi QR Code

A Wi-Fi QR code encodes your wireless network name (SSID), password, and security type. When scanned, the user's device automatically connects to the network — no need to manually find the network, type the password, or ask anyone for credentials.

Why Use a Wi-Fi QR Code?

Sharing Wi-Fi credentials is a common hassle. Passwords are often long, case-sensitive, and hard to communicate verbally. A Wi-Fi QR code eliminates all of that — guests scan the code and they're connected. No spelling out passwords letter by letter, no sticky notes on the wall.

This is particularly valuable for businesses that provide guest Wi-Fi. It improves the customer experience while keeping your password secure, since users connect without ever seeing the actual credentials on their screen.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to your QRSpike account and go to your Dashboard.
  2. Click Create QR Code.
  3. Select Wi-Fi from the QR code type dropdown.
  4. Enter a name for your QR code.
  5. Enter your Wi-Fi SSID (network name). This must match your network name exactly, including capitalization (2–32 characters).
  6. Enter the Wi-Fi Password (up to 80 characters). Leave this blank if your network is open (no password).
  7. Select the Wi-Fi Auth Type that matches your router's security setting: None (open network), WEP, WPA, or WPA2. Most modern networks use WPA2.
  8. Customize the Color, Background Color, Icon, and Border settings.
  9. Click Preview to review the appearance.
  10. Click Save.

Use Cases

Cafes and Restaurants

Display a Wi-Fi QR code on table tents, menus, or near the counter. Customers scan to connect without asking staff for the password.

Hotels and Vacation Rentals

Place a Wi-Fi QR code on the room's welcome card or key holder. Guests connect instantly without deciphering a long password from a printout.

Offices and Coworking Spaces

Post a Wi-Fi QR code in meeting rooms and common areas so visitors and new members can get online immediately without IT support.

Home Guests

Print or frame a Wi-Fi QR code for your guest room. Friends and family can connect to your home network with a quick scan when they visit.
